Nintendo has announced that Metroid Ravenous is in development for Nintendo Switch 2, news that was shared in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
“The latest game in the 2D Metroid series is coming to Nintendo Switch 2,” Yoshiaki Koizumi explained. “We saw a mysterious group attacking Samus Aran and an ability that appears to drain energy… It’s eat or be eaten. Please look forward to Metroid Ravenous.”
In the game’s reveal trailer, we can hear Samus explain her situation: “I was attacked by unknown assailants and sustained grave injuries. I don’t know where I am. Getting back to the surface won’t be easy. My chances of getting off this moon are slim at best. Still… I will survive. And I will make it home. Even if I have to feed on my enemies to do so. It’s eat or be eaten.”
It was confirmed that a Metroid Ravenous amiibo collection will be released at launch, which includes individual Samus and Chozo Statue figures. The Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo is the third in the lineup, but this will be bundled in a Metroid Ravenous Special Edition that will include the game and a SteelBook case.
Metroid Ravenous will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 28 January 2027.
