Starfield Finally Gets A Child Adoption Like Skyrim

Starfield just got a major roleplaying mechanic from Skyrim, giving players the chance to adopt children.

This comes to us courtesy of a fan-made Creation - a mod that you can buy through an in-game store. The Creation is available on both PC and console, meaning any Starfield player has access to it if they put the money down.

New Starfield Creation Lets You Start A Family

Parenthood: Child Adoption is a Creation from the user KalTheHuman. It will set you back 400 creation credits (you can get 500 for $4.99). With the Creation installed, you will be able to adopt two fully voiced child NPCs: Eli and Riley.

Yes, Creations are essentially Bethesda's rebranded paid mods. At the very least, you can download mods for free still, even on console. That compromise seems to have been largely accepted as the years have gone by.

"Meet Eli, a mechanically gifted kid from Cydonia accompanied by Pip, the robot he reprogrammed, and Riley, a Hopetown dockhand with dreams of becoming a pilot," reads the Creation's description.

You can have the pair live on your ship, in your house, or even with your parents, if you have any. There are a bunch of roleplay mechanics, too, like being able to play hide-and-seek, giving them gifts and an allowance, and telling them stories,

If you're not interested in any of that, there are gameplay perks you get for adopting them, which will get stronger as you spend more time with the kids. Eli will reduce resource carry weight, and Riley increases grav jump range.

It's promising to see that we're getting mods like this for Starfield. Admittedly, Skyrim got child adoption in official DLC, rather than a fan-made creation, but at least it's got it in some form, especially given how many players turn to Bethesda games as life sims. Starfield less so, judging from lower player figures, but it still has its audience.
